Report: Lionel Messi now wants manager with seven trophies to replace Tata Martino at Inter Miami

Lionel Messi has a significant say at Inter Miami.

The Argentine’s contract with the Major League Soccer outfit is believed to come with the promise of receiving shares in the club once he departs, while David Beckham would be unwise to make any decisions which upset the South American during his stint in the United States.

Now, it is felt that the Inter Miami No.10 will have a say on who becomes the new Head Coach at the Chase Stadium – after Tata Martino opted to resign for personal reasons.

A man Lionel Messi knows well in Javier Mascherano has been linked with Inter Miami in light of the news, although the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has a different name in mind.

Lionel Messi wants Xavi to replace Tata Martino

A story from Cadena SER now states that the 37-year-old wants Beckham to hire Xavi.

The Spaniard is currently available after leaving Barcelona at the end of last season, where he won La Liga in 2022/23 and also the Supercopa de Espana in 2023.

It means Xavi has seven trophies to his name in management, having lifted the Qatar Stars League, Qatar Cup, Sheikh Jassim Cup, Emir of Qatar Cup and the Qatari Stars Cup with Al Sadd.

Messi obviously knows the 44-year-old well, having made 399 appearances alongside him for Barcelona, so you can understand why the Argentina international is keen for Beckham to make the call.

However, the man from Rosaria may be left disappointed.

Xavi not interested in managing Inter Miami

The latest update on Xavi is that the man born in Terrassa has no intention of managing Inter Miami.

It was Spanish journalist and football expert Guillem Balague who claimed that Xavi would reject Inter Miami if they came calling – as he intends to take a break from football before managing in Europe, preferably in the Premier League.

Therefore, despite Messi’s alleged desire to be reunited with Xavi in Miami, it seems as if Beckham will have to pursue a different coach.
