The Javier Mascherano era is well underway following the signing of an MLS veteran.
Inter Miami secured the free agent signing of Picault following his contract exit from Vancouver Whitecaps.
Having rejected the chance to sign for Austin FC in favor of joining the Herons, Picault is said to be a huge fan of Lionel Messi – suggesting the Argentine may have been one of the key factors in the 33-year-old’s decision.
Messi however isn’t the only member of the Inter Miami roster, who Picault is a big fan of.

Fafa Picault is a big fan of Inter Miami’s Sergio Busquets
Having played for the likes of Nashville SC and Vancouver Whitecaps in recent seasons, Picault has witnessed Inter Miami’s meteoric rise first-hand – even losing out to the Herons in the 2023 Leagues Cup.
In the aftermath of that game, Picault reflected on what it was like to play against some of soccer’s greatest – pinpointing Sergio Busquets in particular.
“It’s not just him (Messi) you’ve got Busquets and Jordi Alba. They have been amazing additions. This guy Busquets is crazy in the middle,” Picault told the LeBatardShow.
“At the end of the day, he doesn’t move fast, he just sneaks up in these little pockets and somebody else then has to pick him up. Messi does the same. They kind of play off each other in a strange way and then you have dynamic strikers playing off them,” the 33-year-old added.
How could Inter Miami lineup with Fafa Picault
Able to play anywhere across the frontline, Picault’s key asset is his versatility in the final third.
18 goal contributions last campaign, suggests the former Nashville man could make an instant impact for Inter Miami – possibly displacing the likes of Robert Taylor and Matias Rojas.

Whether it be starting or as a back-up, Inter Miami’s signing of Picault will be seen by many as a very clever signing.
