Javier Mascherano’s Inter Miami squad is starting to take shape ahead of the 2025 season.
The departures of Leo Campana and Diego Gomez have since been followed by the arrival of MLS veteran Fafa Picault from the Vancouver Whitecaps as a free agent.
The Herons, however, are seemingly not stopping there, as Inter Miami target a move for Gonzalo Lujan.
With so much transfer activity going on, it may leave some of Inter Miami’s squad questioning their future at the Chase Stadium.
Robert Taylor’s future could be in doubt after Fafa Picult transfer
Having notched 18 goal contributions last campaign, Picault will arrive in Vice City wanting to make an instant impact.
Able to play anywhere across the frontline, the former Nashville man will be competing with the likes of Robert Taylor for a starting birth under Mascherano.

Taylor, who is 30 himself, has been a fine servant for the Herons since his arrival in 2022, he has however never been a consistent starter – suggesting his time could soon be up in Vice City.
Season | Robert Taylor | Fafa Picault |
2024 | 10 (G+A) | 18 (G+A) |
2023 | 17 (G+A) | 11 (G+A) |
2022 | 8 (G+A) | 10 (G+A) |
Total | 35 (G+A) | 39 (G+A) |
Lionel Messi relationship may save Robert Taylor from exit
Having impressed in patches, it was in the 2023 season in which Taylor shone brightest – thanks to an unlikely partnership with Lionel Messi.
The pair formed a strong on-field relationship following the Argentine’s arrival, setting each other up five times in their 24 matches played together.
Tata Martino even labeled Taylor as an ‘important player’ in the absence of Messi back in July and the 30-year-old will no doubt hope new boss Mascherano thinks the same.
