Report: Matias Rojas' Inter Miami fate could now be sealed following latest transfer decision

Javier Mascherano has had to deal with a number of departures since his Inter Miami arrival.

Diego Gomez has joined Premier League Brighton, meanwhile, the likes of Leonardo Campana and CJ Dos Santos have moved on to other MLS clubs.

The new Herons boss though has been aided by the arrival of free agent Fafa Picault from Vancouver Whitecaps, with Inter Miami also looking set to sign Tadeo Allende from La Liga side Celta Vigo.

With one attacker through the door and another soon to follow, the future of Matias Rojas has been left in doubt – leaving many to think the Paraguyan’s time at the Chase Stadium could be up.

Matias Rojas in advanced talks with River Plate

Having arrived on a free transfer in April 2024, Rojas quickly became an integral part of the Inter Miami roster – contributing to 11 goals in 20 games.

With that being said, it came as a surprise to many when Inter Miami made Rojas available for the MLS expansion draft.

This news has since been followed by numerous rumors linking the 29-year-old with a move away from Vice City, with Boca Juniors eager to sign Rojas.

Despite the interest from Fernando Gago’s side, Rojas now looks set to sign for fellow Argentine giants River Plate – that is according to journalist Germán García Grova on X (formerly Twitter).

“#River is in advanced talks to sign Matías Rojas.

The footballer is free after his time at #InterMiamiCF

Fernando Gago called him to play at #Boca but the club did not advance with any proposal.”

Inter Miami may regret Rojas transfer decision

Rojas was undoubtedly one of Inter Miami’s best signings of 2024, providing the Herons with some much-needed firepower during an injury crisis.

In the Leagues Cup, for example, the Paraguayan international scored four goals in four games to almost singlehandedly drag Inter Miami to the round of 16 stage.

Whether it be his endless running or his endeavor in the final third it always seemed like it was a privilege for the 29-year-old to play for Inter Miami – something the player admitted himself with Rojas claiming he was ‘proud’ to play alongside Lionel Messi.

So with Rojas seemingly heading out the door, who will David Beckham and co target as his replacement? We will have to wait and see.
